City Manager Keith Ashby

The City Manager is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the Mayor and City Commission. As chief executive officer of the city, the City Manager is directly responsible for the efficient administration of all city government departments.
The duties and powers of the City Manager include enforcing all laws and ordinances; appointing and/or dismissing all department heads; recommending measures, ordinances, and legislation necessary for efficient operation of the city; preparing the city's recommended budget; informing the Mayor and Commission of the city's financial position; and other such duties as may be required by ordinance or resolution of the Mayor and City Commisssion. Article VI Sec.40 defines this position.

The City Commission appointed Mr.Keith R. Ashby in 2005 and his current contract ends in 2011. Mr. Ashby graduated from Carmel High School in New York before attending State University of New York were he received his Bachelors Degree in Political Science. He has over 30 PhD credits from the University of Maryland and SUNY. His M.S.A is from Embry Riddle University. He served for 30 years in the United States Air Force and retired as as a Colonel, he served in Vietnam, Iraq, and Bosnia. He also spent 28 years as a commercial and military pilot. Mr.Ashby now resides in Newberry, he has a wife and five sons and is a " Proud Methodist!"
